Chapter Eleven

“I ’m sure you are,” Jordan responded, his voice deadly low. “And if I find out you’re involved in my father’s death, you won’t find a crevice small enough to hide in.”

“I didn’t kill your father, you idiot. I worked for your father. Kyle was dirty, not me.”

“And I should believe you, why?”

Calvin folded his arms. “An autopsy found heavy traces of high-quality cocaine in what body parts we could locate of Tim Severs.”

“If you don’t tell me something I don’t know already, I’ll shoot you just for the hell of it.”

“At President Mercer’s request, Archer Cordey asked some of his son Scott’s friends about Timothy Severs’s illegal activities. Friends that knew both Scott Cordey and Timothy. It seems the boys went to college together.”

“And?”

“Archer discovered the name of Severs’s drug supplier. A supplier the DEA had in custody,” he advised. Calvin reached for his pocket.

“I’d be very careful right now,” Jordan warned.

Slowly, with two fingers, Cal pulled a photograph out of his coat pocket. “This is the man we believe picked up the drugs from the supplier for Severs.”

Regina peered around Jordan to see the photograph. “Scarface.”

“His name is Solomon Kashin. Ex-KGB, full-time mercenary. An expert in demolition. Among other things.”

“So you’re saying he would have knowledge on how to detonate a nuclear weapon?” Jordan questioned.

“Possible. Although nuclear is far different from any other explosive he would have used in the military.”

“So we have one player,” Regina commented.

“Possibly. We just don’t know who’s hired him,” Cal answered. “I’m hoping your trip will find out for us.”

With the same two fingers, he pulled out a manila envelope from inside his jacket. “Here’s the paperwork you need to land in Keflavik. It’s also all the information I have on Kyle. And what we have on Russia’s suitcase bombs.”

“You’re the delivery boy?”

Cal nodded. “We’d suspected Kyle Morris was dirty. Last year, Chris volunteered to take the case. But over the last six months or so, things changed.”

“Changed how?”

“Chris became more secretive about his investigation. Didn’t file any reports. Didn’t keep me informed. I need you to find out why.”

“You think he was a traitor.”

“I liked Chris. More than that, I respected him, which is hard to do in this business.” Cal handed Regina the file. “Number Ten isn’t happy. He believes Chris crossed the line.”

“Number Ten being the prime minister,” Regina commented logically. England’s prime minister lived at Number Ten Downing Street in London.

Cal nodded. “And now with Kyle’s murder, you’ve been listed as a traitor. I need you to prove both counts wrong.”

“Don’t worry, I will,” Jordan managed, understanding, but still not trusting. Still, he shoved his pistol back into his shoulder holster. “But not for MI6.”

“Fair enough. As long as the results are the same. You’ve got tanks of extra gas on that bird. Should be plenty to get you to Iceland. Refuel there.”

With a short salute, he turned away, only to turn back again. “By the way, I want my jet back undamaged.”

“Your jet?”

“Who do you think Cain called? He couldn’t pull one on his own without Mercer finding out.
